1880's Chromolithograph Design and Calendar Without the Calendar. What? Well, John Benjamin and Sons, in Grand Rapids, Michigan decided to advertise their Dry Goods business by giving out a calendar to their customers to hang on the wall. Once the year was over, they weren't ready to stop looking at the illustration of the lovely daisy bouquet, and the woman in her classy Renaissance gown and feathered fan, so the kept the illustration, and tossed the calendar. It is printed on a heavy card stock. The back is blank… no writing. In it is in very good condition. The corners are all a bit "bumped." But there is not soiling or surface wear in front or in back (other than what was already mentioned.) The edges are sound, and the colors are still very bright. Please see all photos above.

So … what is a "Calendar without a Calendar … you might ask?  Well y
ou know, back in the 1880's and 1890's, chromolithographed advertising media were all the rage.   Everybody who was anybody, had a scrapbook for these little pretties.
So
John H. W. Wood, in Haverhill, Mass
decided to advertise his Jewelry and Silversmith business, by giving out a calendar to their customers to hang on the wall.   Their customers were very appreciative.   So appreciative in fact, that after the year was over, they weren't ready to stop looking at the illustration of the lovely country cottage design with the border of pansies.  To make it even more special, it is dye cut, to give it a 3-D effect.
So they disconnected the calendar from the illustration, tossed it in the trash, and attached the illustration back to the wall.  The calendar part is not supposition.  There are actually staple holes on the illustration where the calendar once hung.
And that's what a "Calendar without a Calendar" means.
So this lovely "1880's Chromolithograph Design and Calendar without the Calendar anymore" measures approximately 9-1/4" x 6-3/4", and is printed on a heavy card stock. The back is blank… no writing.  And it is in excellent condition.  No soiling or surface wear in front or in back (other than the tiny hole where the calendar was connected.)  The edges are sound, and the colors are still extremely bright and beautiful.
Overall this outstanding Advertising piece is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully!! Please see all of the photos above to confirm the condition of this Illustration.
